Strength, volume and harmony – we are diving into the magic of Bordeaux wine
The region around Bordeaux is world-renowned for its high-quality wine.
Wine is cultivated over an area of more than 100,000 hectares of sun-kissed, softly undulating hills.
Perhaps you have already paid a visit to this region? If so, you will certainly recall the mild temperatures, which are not too warm in summer and not too cold in winter. However, it is not only sunshine and temperature that are key to a good vintage: the soil conditions in this region are unique: it varies between gravelly, sandy and barren or clay-limestone. Gravelly and sandy soils are excellent at retaining warmth, limestone and clay soils are more suited to water retention.

What's more, there are very few wines that consist of one single variety of grape. Most wines from this region are conjured up from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Cabernet Franc grapes. Here, it depends on exactly the right mixture and ratio – and how long the wine is stored! That is why a visit to the cooled cellars of the awe-inspiring Châteaux, where millions of bottled treasures are stored, is nothing short of fascinating and certainly should not be missed. More than 3,000 of these vineyards are open for visits and tasting sessions.
