Helvetic heading for record result
Helvetic Airways – the largest purely Swiss airline – have published results that they can be proud of. (Schweiz am Sonntag, 7.2.16)

In 2015, the airline achieved record results. They transported a total of 1.75 million passengers, and in 2016 they plan to break through the 2 million barrier for the first time.

Their fleet, which consisted of seven aircraft in 2014, was doubled last year with the addition of seven Embraer 190s. They were able to put these aircraft into immediate action for Hotelplan flights, since the partnership between the Migros travel subsidiary and Germania Flug AG broke up last summer.

In 2015, the average occupancy on their flights was a respectable 85 per cent.
Meanwhile they have established a good combination of three core businesses. Four Embraer and four Fokker 100 aircraft fly for Swiss. The remaining planes fly regular passenger services to 16 European destinations and are used for charters by, for instance, a range of sport clubs and private companies.

So further growth is entirely feasible. The number of staff, which has just reached 400, has already gone up by 150 over the last few years – but unfortunately there is a shortage of cabin staff. However, thanks to their particular job profiles and the shorter flights in Europe, Helvetic Airways can continue to expect plenty of applications (not just from new entrants to the profession but also from returners, students, mothers and part-timers).
