Taormina – a small town with a big view
A visit to Taormina is a must for anyone travelling to Sicily:

200 metres above the sea, on the slopes of Monte Tauro, lies this small town with its expansive Mediterranean backdrop. On a clear day Calabria seems close enough to touch. Starting at the Torre dell'Orologio, a clock tower built in 1679, the Piazza IX Aprile extends like a balcony over the sea. The piazza is a popular meeting point for catching up with friends and watching the world go by.
However, it seems that the hustle and bustle is somehow being watched from the mountain side: A skull and crossbones in the doorway creates an eerie feel, reminding us of the mortality of life.
Along the Corso Umberto, Taormina's main promenade, we come to the bold figure of the centauress in Piazza Duomo.
The sculpture, which crowns the baroque fountain, is Taormina's landmark and can also be found on the city's coat of arms.
The figure, half woman and half bull, stands for the combination of female grace and male strength.

Discover Taormina for yourself: Go for a stroll in the morning, when the sun is in the sky and there is still a light breeze.

The people of Bern should not miss out on Catania and the surrounding area:
This summer, Helvetic Airways is operating the Bern-Catania route every Saturday.
