Voyage of Discovery across the Serra de Tramuntana
The Balearic Island of Palma de Mallorca is not only a beach holiday destination. A mountain range reaching almost 1500 metres extends from the southwest, above the capital city Palma, up as far as the northeast: the Serra de Tramuntana.
The mountains act as a shield against the cold north winds, lending the island its stable pleasantly mild climate.

The mountain range, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers all fans of hiking a fantastic natural backdrop from September to June with optimal hiking conditions.
The highest mountain, known as Puig Major, is still a military restricted area today and cannot be ascended as far as the summit. But even the mere sight of it creates an imposing impression. To the left of the mountain range, towering cliffs lead down to the sea; whereas to the right there are extensive olive groves and pine forests. Narrow, stony paths lead to small villages such as Valldemossa, past waterfalls, caves or reservoirs.

Did you know that the pianist Frédéric Chopin and his lover, the writer George Sand, spent some time in dreamy Valldemossa in 1838? As well as discovering this wonderful natural paradise, it is worthwhile paying a visit to enjoy coffee in one of the many bars. Due to strong demand, Helvetic Airways has increased its flight capacity from Berne. In addition to the already existing flight days of Thursday and Sunday, we are also offering a flight on Saturday and a second flight on Sunday. Flight schedule Palma

Flights to Palma can be booked via the travel agencies Kuoni, Universal Reisen and Belpmoos Reisen, or direct at www.helvetic.com
