You must cross these bridges...
Venice, Prague, Paris, Florence, Bordeaux – the images of these cities are characterised by old, romantic bridges.

In Bordeaux it’s well worth visiting these bridges:

Old:
The old Pont de Pierre, a masterpiece in stone constructed over the River Garonne in 1822, is the most beautiful bridge. It’s also known as Pont Napoléon. Popular with tourists, it’s a celebrated subject for photos and videos. The positioning of the lanterns decorating the bridge is particularly special: since first being fitted in about 1900, they have alternatively been fixed either hanging or standing.

High:
In 1967, the Pont d’Aquitaine – one of the highest suspension bridges in France – was constructed. Cyclists have a wonderful panoramic view from here over the River Garonne and the city of Bordeaux. The bridge also provides a good training opportunity: the uphill gradient is 6%.

Elegant:
Bordeaux’s newest landmark is also Europe’s largest lift bridge. Named after the Mayor of the city, Jacques Chaban-Delmas, its length spans nearly 430 metres and its mechanically sophisticated lift is concealed in one of the four columns. The midsection can be raised up to 55 metres, enabling passenger ships and cargo vessels to sail into Bordeaux harbour at both high and low tide.

From 8th May 2014, we will be building a bridge between Zürich and Bordeaux: please be our guest. On www.helvetic.com/Bordeaux you can find lots of information about the city on the Garonne. We look forward to welcoming you on board.
