In addition to sports, culinary and cultural activities and attractions, visitors to the capital of Aquitaine can also enjoy a wealth of events celebrating the region’s famous red wine all year round.
On 17 and 18 May, for example, the winemaking cooperative Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux will be hosting a "Grand Cru" experience weekend with tastings, visits and fine dining in fantastic Châteaux. www.ugcb.net
A month later, in June, is the Bordeaux Wine Festival when, from 26-29 June, the city will celebrate its great wine with much history and tradition. www.bordeaux-fete-le-vin.com
Somewhat later in the calendar, but worth a special mention, is the Marathon du Médoc sporting event. On 13 September, the marathon will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with the theme “Countries of the world and their carnivals”. Runners taking part in the world’s most creative marathon will be in for a treat with 22 refreshment stands, 55 entertainment points, wine tasting at the Châteaux, champagne, oysters, tomatoes, cheese, ice-cream and much more along the route!
