Bordeaux: the Ace of South-West France
The Aquitaine region has plenty to offer, whether you are a fan of the city or the countryside.
Bordeaux, for example, has plenty of aces up its sleeve.
For starters, there’s the 18th-century architecture of the Bordeaux skyline, which invites you to go shopping or just spend some time in the “triangle bordelais”, the so-called golden triangle in the centre of the city. The evenings are almost always mild, and offer the perfect opportunity to visit the National Opera or head to a French restaurant and taste the fine cuisine of Bordeaux.
The Bicarosse, about an hour away in the Landes region, has another few aces to play: this is where lovers of sports and the countryside really get their money’s worth. The turquoise sea is perfect for surfing and for walks on the beach, and the “Forêt des Landes de Gascogne”, Europe’s largest forest, offers plenty of opportunities for walking or cycling in the fresh air. But you’ll see the best side of the city itself after sunset, especially in the summer, while sipping your favourite apéritif on the patio.

From 8 May 2014, you’ll be able to get to Bordeaux direct from Switzerland.
Helvetic Airways will be flying twice a week from Zürich to Bordeaux.
